(2) Working Principle
The main body is a cylindrical slurry cup with an inner diameter of 76.2mm, a height of at least 64mm, and a volume of 300–400ml. This cup is made of a material resistant to strong alkaline solutions and is assembled to allow the pressurized medium to be easily introduced and released from the top. The filtration area is (4560±60)mm2. To obtain well-correlated results, a filter paper with a diameter of 90mm must be used.
V. Operation of the Instrument
1. Ensure all parts of the instrument are clean and dry, and the "○" ring is intact. Fill the slurry cup with drilling fluid until the liquid level aligns with the mark. Place the sealing ring and filter paper properly, cover the cup, and connect the graduated cylinder below the filtrate outlet.
2. Quickly pressurize and start timing. The applied pressure should be (690±35)kPa. The gas source can be compressed air, nitrogen, or carbon dioxide; oxygen is prohibited.
3. After 30 minutes, read the volume of collected filtrate and close the pressure regulating valve. Remove the cylinder, read and record the volume of filtrate collected (unit: ml). Simultaneously measure and record the initial temperature of the drilling fluid in °C. Turn off the gas source, release the pressure in the slurry cup, remove the cup, carefully take out the filter paper, rinse the drilling fluid and floating mud from the filter cake with water, measure and record the filter cake thickness (in mm), and observe the quality of the filter cake (hard, soft, tough, loose, dense, firm, etc.).
VI. Maintenance and Care of the Instrument
1. Clean all parts and dry them for future use. Store the instrument in a dry environment. Ensure the air vents are clean. The "○" ring and filter screen should not be deformed or damaged, and the sealing surface should be free of damage.
2. Handle the instrument gently during moving, repairing, or maintenance to avoid deformation of parts, which may affect accuracy and usability.
3. When storing, ensure the pressure regulating handle is in a free state. Regularly unscrew the bolt at the pressure regulating handle and apply lubricant to prevent rust and ensure proper pressure regulation.
4. When adjusting pressure, do not exceed 2/3 of the pressure gauge’s full range. Increase pressure gradually and avoid tapping the pressure gauge.
5. After use, release all pressure and gas from all parts. Only open the slurry cup for cleaning and drying after depressurizing.
6. Avoid contact between the air hose and corrosive media. Do not strike or scratch the hose.
7. Never use oxygen as the gas source.
